Lesson One

12 July 2024

Cinematography is the art of Moving Pictures.

I have a Pentax Camera with which I take still pictures. If I take several pictures changing things either by moving the camera lens or the objects photographed, then assemble these picture and view them one after the other, we can call it a”moving picture”. Cinematography is the art of putting these images or “moving pictures” together to tell a story.

Cinematography comes from two ancient Greek words; kinēme, which means movement, and gráphein, which means to write, paint, or draw.

A video camera is a more sophisticated way of filming your story.

A flip book is another form of making a “moving picture.”

HOW TO START

Actually, this Blog Post isn’t about how to start but how to keep going. I believe once you are moving along in your chosen profession staying at it and growing you acumen is a matter of refining direction and tweaking speed. This requires daily monitoring, action, recording and collecting of results.

That means taking practical, real steps toward your goal. That means you need to know what the goal is. I could envy people who play sports because the rules are all agreed on and everyone who plays knows what the rules are, or are learning the rules and keeping them. Truly, I don’t envy them I respect their dedication, aptitude, strength, and persistence.

As an artist, I set the parameters of my work. What will I make how long will I work and what happens to the object or thing that is made.

Sometimes the vista is enormous with an ever-expanding potential and reach. For example my website Lilacflows.com is a creative project itself.

I know how my website works and how to maintain it, but it can’t do everything I want it to.

I find it difficult to share my work. Why?

My current goal is to sell my paintings.

And I am not sure how to do that.

That’s it for today! Good Luck out there, and God Bless You.
